Entertainment in Kuala Lumpur

More Kuala Lumpur Photos
Western culture has made its mark on the nightlife in KL as most nightclubs play dance music from Europe and the US. This means techno and house music. They stay open until midnight and the clubs usually have a cover charge, although this includes a free drink.

A street renowned for its nightlife is Jalan Bukit Bintang which is about ten minutes walking distance from Chinatown. Many of the best bars and nightclubs can be found along this strip. Another is Bangsar, about a ten minute walk from the city centre which is great for people watching and has nearly 50 bars, clubs and restaurants.

If you don’t want to go to a bar or nightclub, but don’t necessarily want to stay in your hostel at night, you should make a trip down to Chinatown. Due to the abundance of restaurants, the streets are always full. Another thing which attracts people in their droves is the night market where there are many bargains to be found.

6 Jalan Telawi Lima, Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Like many Irish bars around the world, Finnegan’s is always full of life. People dancing on the speakers and tables make a night here one you won’t forget. At the weekends it gets extremely full.

  • Hard Rock Cafe

Jalan Sultan Ismail, next to Concorde Hotel, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

The KL branch of this world-wide chain is one of the city's most popular hotspots. Live bands appear nightly at 11pm and the crowd is a nice mix of locals and tourists.

  • Emporium

97 Jalan Sultan Ismail, Golden Triangle, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Emporium is one of the city’s best and most popular clubs with a large indoor dance floor and a spacious terrace when inside becomes too stuffy. Keep an eye out for special guest DJs.

  • Hemmingway's

    Jalan Changkat, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

This Cuban-themed bar is quickly becoming one of the most popular in the city. It can't be missed thanks to the huge sign outside and if you find yourself getting peckish, you can always get some nibblers such as chicken wings.

  • Zouk

113 Jalan Ampang, Golden Triangle, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

15 years after opening its flagship club in Singapore in 1991, Zouk moved to Kuala Lumpur. Now firmly established as the Malaysian capital's number one club, it regularly attracts the world's top DJs for one-off events. There is also a separate 'Velvet Underground' section which isn't so full on.

    Open Thurs-Sat 9pm-3am; admission charge.

  • Beach Club Café

97 Jalan P Ramlee, Golden Triangle, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Located on one of the city's most vibrant strips, the Beach Club Café does everything in its power to ensure you feel close to the sea and by the beach. It's an outdoor bar in beach-hut style, there are palm trees galore and lots and lots of cocktails being sipped.

    Open daily from 6pm-3am.

  • Luna

Menara PanGlobal, Jalan Punchak, Golden Triangle, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
